Still Standing: US Wineries That Are Adapting, Shipping, and Sustaining Our Industry

These are unprecedented times, but they’re no match for the human spirit and ingenuity. Though most doors to non-essential businesses are closed, these wineries are persevering. They’re shipping wine all over the country, holding virtual events to connect with their customers, and even hand delivering items to their customers’ doorsteps, when possible. They’re doing all they can to remain viable and are supporting friends from other wineries, as well. Take a moment to explore the list of these wineries we’ve compiled and please order from and support these wineries as much as possible.

Belden Barns

Belden Barns is known to have one of the best vineyards in California. Their fruit is used by highly discerning wine producers including Argot, Carlisle, Donelan Family, Enkidu, Eric Kent, Holdredge, Three Sticks, and Vaughn Duffy. Matching grape varietal to appropriate climate is one of the most important variables in creating great wine, and Belden Barns’ 1000 ft elevated Sonoma Mountain perch above the Bennett Valley provides a very accommodating home for the cool-climate grapes they grow.

Each week, they’ll explore a new varietal/bottling from their portfolio, inviting participants to weigh in on attributes like taste, appearance, and perfect pairing ideas. Idle Hour Winery

Winemaker Anna Marie dos Remedios began making wine in 2007 focusing on small lot, single-vineyard designated wines from some of California’s best wine-growing regions. Anna Marie learned traditional winemaking methods from mentor and renowned Pinot Noir producer Josh Jensen at Calera Wine Company. Anna Marie and partner Deb Payne started the winery, focusing on these traditional methods: native yeast fermentation, gravity flow racking, and the use of neutral French Oak; all very gentle in nature, applying these to all the varieties Anna Marie ferments. Elegance and freshness are the hallmarks of the Idle Hour wines.

Adapting to what’s currently happening in our world is no small task, but if we adhere to the instructions given by those in authority that share verifiable information, give our support to these wineries that are essentially small businesses (often families) and are doing all they know possible to keep orders coming in, all while remaining hopeful and full of gratitude, this time of trial will soon be an afterthought. This industry will come roaring back and we will have come through it all together and stronger than ever before.
