The Benevolent Charity hosted their annual Benevolent Ball at The Dorchester in London on March 12, 2015. It was an unforgettable evening of the most wonderful wine, delectable food and world class entertainment. The event was a delight for any wine enthusiast, as it featured a special drinks auction, including a “critics’ case” of twelve prestige bottles from the personal cellars of a few of the UK’s most influential wine critics including Tim Atkin, Michael Broadbent, Oz Clarke, Hugh Johnson, Matthew Jukes, Jane MacQuitty, Charles Metcalfe, Peter Richards, Jancis Robinson, Anthony Rose, Olly Smith and Steven Spurrier—which sold for £4,000. A twelve-bottle Taittinger Collection by Michael Cox featuring exclusive bottles designed by world renowned artists was auctioned off for a whopping for £7,600.

Guests were also treated to drinks at the Salon des Champagnes sponsored by Louis Roederer, Moët Hennessy and Taittinger, as well as an exquisite four-course meal crafted by The Dorchester’s top Chefs accompanied by a selection of wines. There was also a raffle where every ticket won a fantastic prize—one of which was the VinGardeValise® wine suitcase! The lucky winner of the VGV® wine travel case was James McKenna—who not only received the wine carrying case, but a case of wine to go in it as well! His wine travel needs are all set now thanks to The Benevolent and VinGardeValise®!

The Benevolent; The Drinks Industry Charity, is a UK-based charity that provides practical, emotional and financial support to people who work or have previously worked in the UK drinks industry, as well as their families. The charity was founded in 1886 after a letter was published by Robert Gray, a City of London wine merchant, to the Chairman of Wine and Spirit Association that proposed the formation of a Benevolent Society for any wine and spirit trade workers facing hard times. Since its conception, The Benevolent seeks to make a difference in the daily lives of those who work or have worked in the drinks industry and now need help due to medical or financial hardship—that includes people from all areas of the drinks industry including those involved in production, distribution, marketing, import, export and sales of alcohol.

This year’s Benevolent Ball saw top figures and personalities from the UK

Drinks Industry gathered together to support their trade. The event was a huge success, raising well over £40,000 to support those in need within the trade. We couldn’t be happier to have the world’s foremost virtually indestructible wine carrier, the VinGardeValise®, be a part of this remarkable night. We’re looking forward to next year’s ball and we hope to see you there!
